As the flagship of the Lexus brand, the 2020 LS sedan sits near the top of the luxury-car hierarchy and challenges European contenders with its Japanese aesthetic. Unlike flagship sedans from rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the LS eschews the traditional V-8 engine in favor of either a twin-turbocharged V-6 engine (LS500) or a hybrid setup comprised of a V-6 and two electric motors (LS500h). Its quiet, leather-lined cabin impresses with some unique design flourishes, but ergonomic issues with the infotainment system are irksome. Plus, the available hybrid powertrain is unrefined, and the LS's driving dynamics aren't as satisfying as key rivals.
